Archer is a common kit that gives a bad weapon, weak armor at higher levels, but a powerful bow.
Archer is a common kit, and costs 500 coins to unlock.
At level 1, the kit gets:
+ Diamond helmet (projectile protection 5)
+ Iron chestplate (protection 1, projectile protection 5)
+ Leather leggings (projectile protection 5)
+ Leather boots (projectile protection 5 )
+ Stone sword
+ Bow (power 1, infinity 1)
+ Arrow
+ Permanent Speed 1
The level 2 upgrade costs 1000 coins, and consists of:
+ Iron chestplate (protection 1, projectile protection 5) → Iron chestplate (protection 2, projectile protection 5)
The level 3 upgrade costs 1500 coins, and consists of:
+ Iron chestplate (protection 2, projectile protection 5) → Iron chestplate (protection 3, projectile protection 5)
+ Bow (power 1, infinity 1) → Bow (power 2, infinity 1)
+ Bow. The bow is the main purpose of this kit. It takes a lot of skill to use, and is often underestimated because of this. But if you know how to predict movements and aim with the bow, it will be very powerful.
+ Projectile protection. The projectile protection makes you practically immune to other Archer's arrows and other projectiles.
+ Infinite Speed 1. This just makes you slightly faster, helping you get better combos, running away, and chasing people.
Archer is overpowered by most kits in melee PVP, but it shines in ranged combat. Although the level 2 upgrade is very underpowered, the level 3 upgrade is insane, making your bow do a disgusting amount of damage. The armor is decent compared to other kits at level 1, but the kit barely gets any armor upgrades, so at high levels it's severely outclassed by other kits.
You should use the bow as much as you can, because as said earlier, it's the main focus of the kit. Bowspam as much as you can, then fight in melee. You can even use the bow like a rod, by shooting your enemy right before they enter your hit range to start a combo. You can then bowspam during an “intermission” in a fight, where you and your opponent knock each other back, and use the bow to start a combo again when your enemy gets close enough. If your enemy runs, you can continue shooting your bow at them while they run. You have to also be good at predicting movement, and shooting where your enemy will go to, not their current position. I often see Archers panicking when the enemy starts strafing, and they blindly start spamming shots that rarely hit. It's much more effective to hold back your shots for a few seconds and analyze the strafing pattern of your enemy. All players have a strafing pattern, but with good players, it's less obvious. Once you see the pattern, you will know where your enemy will be next, and you can shoot towards that. You can practice in duels with a bow, or even a rod, because these have the same concept of predicting movement.
The speed 1 is also great. It increases your movement speed and helps a lot in may othr ways. It's also important to note that unlike with speed 2, sprint jumping is faster than just sprinting on the ground. It helps a lot in PVP, and helps with kiting, which I will cover next.
Kiting is a strategy where you repeatedly run back and turn around to shoot your bow. It's often used when you are low or your opponent is way too good at melee PVP. Like with traditional bowing, you need to be able to predict the movement of players.
Archer is also typically considered a grinding kit, because you can sit on a tree and safely bowspam people to get the coins and XP from kills/assists. However, if you do this, turn off your projectile trails (if you have one enabled) because those will broadcast your location. You should also be decently high, but not too high to not be able to hit shots, and in a hidden position, to prevent kangaroos from killing you or to see them coming and bow them off.
Archer is typically considered to have a high skill cap, as it takes a lot of skill to effectively use a bow.
Archer counters close range melee kits, such as default, zombie, and stormcaller. These kits don't have any speed or gimmick that helps chase the Archer, so they can easily be kited or bowspammed.
Archer relies on ranged combat, so you can try to strafe really unpredictability, to throw off the bow shots. However, this doesn't work as well against skilled Archers. You can also use a rod, from fisherman or the fishing rod perk, as this helps with throwing off the movements. Speed kits like enderman, Sonic, and spiderman work especially well because they can rival the speed of Archer. Rhino also works well for the same reason.
Archer counters itself because of the projectile protection, which tanks all the arrow damage.
Kits that mess with movement such as time weaver, spiderman and fisherman can help chase against archers or counter bowing in general. Speed kits also do this, and even kits like viper and dragon, because the tick damage slows your enemy down.
Archer gets demolished by many kits in melee PVP, so you can try to force the Archer into a space where they can't run, to force a trade and win. Boulder works great with this because their ability does just that.
+ Archer used to be one of the default kits unlocked, along with fisherman.
+ You can shoot people while you're on the spawn island, but they won't do any damage and bounce off. The same thing happens when you try to shoot someone who's on the spawn island when you're not.
+ Archer used to have speed 2, making it as fast as sonic and enderman.
Archer is a powerful kit that gets a great bow, but is often underpowered in melee PVP. It takes a lot of skill to use.
That's it for the kit review, comment below on what you think and what kit I should do next!
millitrit kit
Militant?
Hey I saw you in kitpvp yesterday :D
Lol
woah
Hai
Just to clarify, the archer 1 armor isn't too weak if my calculations are correct. The combined armor points is 12, which is 1 less than 13, the armor points of the default kit. However, there is also protection 1 on the chestplate. That means the total damage reduction is 1 - (52% * 96%) = 50.08%, or 1.92% less than default and equivalent to say, dragon. The real disadvantage of the armor is that the armor barely gets upgraded, in contrast to other kits like Zombie (Protection 4 upgrade + Protection 2 upgrade), Default (Protection 2 upgrade I think?), Enderman (Protection 2 upgrade), and even Time Weaver (Protection 5 upgrade). The Bow upgrade is equivalent to an iron → diamond sword upgrade, as it increases medium charge damage by 1, but it isn't too overpowered.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I very likely am wrong, or tell me if my correction was completely unnecessary.
Militant is an interesting kit
Yeah, the armor isn't that weak compared to other low levels kits, but it gets severely outclassed by other kit's armor and weapons at higher levels. I will update the guide to clarify, thanks
btw, not only avoid kangaroos, avoid enders that will tp to you.
Ye good point I'll add that
As well as fishermen too bc of the rod ability
