5 Minecraft 1.8 PvP tips you probably didn't know

Here are 5 useful but little known facts about Minecraft PVP, how many did you know?

1. Let's start off with a fairly well known one - bow boosting. You can shoot your bow slightly upwards in the air while you run to get a boost! This happens because when the arrow comes back down, of gives knockback to you, but because the arrow is facing forward, it knocks you forward! You can do this for long jumps, running away from fights, chasing, or just to show off! A punch bow would boost you even more.

2. Everyone knows that you heal when your hunger bar is high. But did you know the food you eat changes how much you heal? Certain foods give more saturation than others, which affects how much you heal, as well as how long you can go before having to eat again. This makes Golden carrots and steak some of the best foods for PVP, because they give so much saturation!

3. You probably know that you can hit a player with a fishing rod, and it will hit them into the air, helping you start a combo. However, this uses up durability, so you can't do it forever. Or can you? You see, by hitting a player with a rod then switching to a different slot in your hotbar, it will do the same thing without using your rod durability! This works because fishing rods weren't meant for PVP. This allows you to not worry anymore about your rod durability!

4. Which does more damage? A sharpness 2 stone sword (+7.5 damage) or a diamond sword (+7 damage)? Many people would pick the stone sword, because it says it does more damage. However, on a crit, believe it or not, the diamond sword would do more damage! This is because critical hit damage is 1.5x the BASE damage, meaning without enchantments calculated in, and then the enchantments are added in after. So a diamond sword would do 1.5x(7+1)=12 damage on a crit, while the sharpness 2 stone sword would do 1.5x(5+1)+1.25x2=9+2.5=11.5 damage. So knowing this information will help you make smarter weapon choices. If you do a lot of crits, choose the diamond sword, and if you don't, choose the stone sword.

5. Which does more damage on a normal hit? A sharpness 1 stone sword (+6.25 damage) or an iron sword (+6 damage)? It turns out that they do the same amount of damage! Minecraft calculates damage in ¼ hearts, or by every 0.5 damage, so an excess 0.25 would be rounded down. So the stone sword would do 6 damage, not 6.25. This means that the iron sword is equal in normal hits and better at critical hits, so the iron sword would be the best choice for damage.

I hope these tips helped you a lot! Please comment what you think about these tips below.
