When I am wearing a helmet with, say, glowing on it, and it is giving me night vision, I can take another helmet or head and hold it in my hand, then type /hat to put it on and it doesn't remove the effect so now I have permanent night vision

Not really, the effect goes away if you die, and also if you put on the original helmet and take it off again. Also it doesn’t work for any other armour pieces

this works for all armor pieces:

while holding a piece of armor, right click a rclickable block (like an ender chest) - it applies the effects but not the armor

yea just hold the armor piece in your hand and open in chest it should give you the perm effects or wear armor and shift click other piece of armor and it should give the effects.

Yah that's been a active gitch since forever

nah you just have to open your inv and shift click the item when you're wearing the same type of armor (ex: you're wearing a diamond chest plate and you can shift click an armor piece to get its effects)
